Mikey Madison gives an impressive performance as Anora, portraying her with a combination of vulnerability and fierce determination. The film does not avoid the realities of her life, but it also avoids sensationalism. Baker’s signature neorealist style, which uses non-professional actors and location shots, lends the film a meticulous authenticity. While the first act of the film may test the patience of some viewers, it is crucial in establishing Anora’s world and the circumstances that lead to her impulsive marriage.
