Deadpool is offered a spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the Time Variance Authority, but instead recruits a variant of Wolverine to save his universe from extinction. Hugh Jackman said he was truly done playing the Wolverine character after Logan (2017). He later said he regretted that statement after watching the first Deadpool film and expressed to Ryan his interest in the two characters meeting on the big screen. When asked why he chose to return for this film, he simply said, “I just wanted to do it and I felt it in my gut,” adding that he wanted to spend the best time possible on a film set with Ryan Reynolds. Likewise, Reynolds had wanted to work alongside Jackman since the first Deadpool film and was saddened when he (Jackman) stepped away from the role. While Wolverine and Deadpool are on their odyssey in the Honda Odyssey, the car’s clock jumps forward three hours during their conversation. Elliot Chipman: That’s Deadpool. This movie was painful to watch at times. While Deadpool is known for its vulgar and profane language, this movie took it too far. With all the jokes made in the previous movies and trailers, this movie came in with an almost empty gas tank. The plot was just stupid and didn’t do much for the Deadpool franchise. Most of the humor was the same formula. After a while it felt like a funny comedian telling the same joke but in a different style over and over again. It got old. There were some fun scenes, but for the first time in a Deadpool movie, there were a lot of parts where I just lost interest and looked at the clock. They probably should have taken the wins from the first two Deadpool movies and left it at that, and I would have been 100% okay with that. Not worth the ticket, but okay when it’s digital.
